A Bit About Me
On the 17th of May 2002 John Curran was elected to Dáil Éireann for the first time. John topped the poll in the new Dublin Mid-West constituency and he received 5904 first preference votes which represented 21% of all votes cast.
John ran what was regarded as a very professional and ultimately successful election campaign. His campaign team was one of the largest seen in years and he won his seat by drawing support from all sections of the community.
In the Oireachtas Deputy John Curran is a member of the Public Accounts Committee and the Education and Science Committee. John was first elected as a public representative in the Local Elections in June 1999.
He represented Clondalkin/Newcastle in South Dublin County Council and was an active member of the Fianna Fáil group of Councillors. John believes strongly in communicating with his constituents. This website is proof of this, as is his very popular constituency newsletter ‘Community Voice’.
Deputy John Curran is married with school-going children. John has lived all his life in what is now known as the Dublin Mid-West constituency. He is very aware of the needs of those living in the area as they affect him and his family personally. John attended local primary schools before being completing his second level education at Moyle Park College in Clondalkin. After school he was awarded a degree in Commerce from UCD. For the last seventeen years he has successfully run his own business. In business as in politics John is well known for his hard work, his innovative ideas and his ability to solve problems. John is a keen sports enthusiast and an active member of the GAA.
John has been very active in his community for many years; he rates his work with a number of very successful youth work projects and charity fund-raising ventures amongst his proudest achievements. John Curran believes strongly in the value of education. John has served on the board of management of a secondary school and he is currently a board member of a primary school attended by his children.
John’s experiences as an elected representative have made him more and more aware of the real needs of people, like him and his family, who live in Dublin Mid-West. For John Curran Dublin Mid-West means home, it is not just a political constituency. Representing the best interests of the people of Dublin Mid-West and gainging greater investment for improved services in the area are his highest priorities.
